Researcher (f/m/d)

(agricultural economics or agricultural sciences)

in the research project “Model-based scenario analysis for the optimisation of crop production for climate protection (ModOKlim)”.

The overall aim of the project is to identify management measures and farm strategies to optimise crop production for climate protection. The work is embedded in a joint project with the German Weather Service, the Julius Kühn Institute and the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research.

Tasks

  • Statistical analysis of the farm level effects of selected extreme weather events on the basis of existing data
  • Analysis of the role of the crop portfolio for economic risk diversification with special consideration of extreme weather events
  • Analysing the effects of yield losses caused by large-scale extreme weather events on prices
  • Specification of a farm model to analyse climate impacts and the economic effects of different crop portfolios for different farm types and locations under selected climate scenarios
  • Validation of the results with agricultural advisors
  • Preparation of reports, presentations and scientific publications
  • Collaboration in the development of statements for science-based policy advice

Professional requirements profile

  • University degree (M.Sc., Univ. Diploma) in agricultural economics; or agricultural sciences a) with an economic focus or b) with a plant cultivation focus, economic knowledge is an advantage
  • Good knowledge of quantitative analysis methods; experience in dealing with large data sets is an advantage
  • Good knowledge of production-economic relationships in agriculture
  • Good knowledge of multivariate statistics

Personal requirements profile

  • Enjoyment of scientific work in interdisciplinary project contexts
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Analytical thinking skills, critical judgement
  • Ability to present complex issues in a way that is understandable and relevant to the target audience
  • Very good knowledge of English and preferably also good knowledge of German, written and spoken

The employment relationship is governed by the provisions of the German Tariff Agreement for Public Services (TVöD-Bund) and includes comprehensive health, social and pension insurances. The salary is according to remuneration group 13 TVöD. Part-time employment is generally possible.
