Project Coordinator (m/f/d)

marine biology, fisheries biology or comparable discipline

part-time with 75 per cent of regular working hours as part of the EU project MarinePlan ("Improved transdisciplinary science for effective ecosystem-based maritime spatial planning and conservation in European Seas"; www.marineplan.eu).

The Thünen Institute advises the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) on the implementation of the European Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). The EU MarinePlan project is an international and transdisciplinary research project that aims to contribute to greater coherence in the implementation of environmental policies for the protection of marine biodiversity and the sustainable use of European seas. Through the involvement of stakeholders, new knowledge bases for spatial planning concepts, such as criteria for marine protected areas and planning tools, are developed and applied in European case studies.

In this international and transdisciplinary project environment, the post holder is responsible for internal project communication and the external presentation of the project. This includes maintaining the project website and an internal communication platform, as well as coordinating the production of project communications and popular science articles. In addition, administrative tasks will be undertaken, some of which will include financial aspects of project management.

The tasks include in particular:

  • Coordinating the work, contributing to the preparation of reports and the internal and external communication strategy
  • Writing project communications and popular science articles
  • Maintaining a project website and an internal communication platform
  • Support in the creation of graphics and the presentation of complex interrelationships
  • Supporting project management and leadership with administrative work, e.g. financial planning and adherence to milestones and deliverables
  • Planning and realisation of internal and external project meetings

Required qualification:

  • Completed university degree (Diploma or Master) in marine biology, fisheries biology or comparable disciplines
  • Ability to work in a team, social skills and ability to work in a transdisciplinary project environment
  • Experience in project management and coordination
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English and German
  • Fundamental scientific understanding of the MarinePlan research topic
  • Experience in the application of communication strategies

The employment relationship is based on the provisions of the collective labour agreement for the public service (TVöD). The salary is paid according to pay group 13 TVöD  if the personal and collective agreement requirements are met.
