Globally as well as in the EU, agriculture and food sector are major contributors to climate change. Although previous research has demonstrated the potential of market-based solutions to meet mitigation targets in the agricultural sector, it so far has been excluded from trading and pricing schemes such as the EU Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS). To this end, neither concrete design of market-based climate mitigation policies in the EU nor thorough research on their effects and impacts exists, despite ongoing political debates on the issue.
The seminar of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) aims to offer a platform to exchange ideas and to generate an integrated view of options, challenges and limits for pricing of greenhouse gas emissions and other climate mitigation policies in the EU agriculture. The seminar covers theoretical contributions, as well as empirical quantitative and qualitative analyses of mitigation strategies and governance instruments. The seminar is relevant to the scientific community and to decision makers in business and politics, as well as to a broader audience interested in the topic. The seminar will be based on oral presentations in plenary sessions by invited speakers and in parallel sessions with contributed papers.
The seminar is organised by the consortium of the AGRILOP project at Thünen Institute, in cooperation with Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).
