New publication on 3D microscopy, use of volumetric sub-µCT and nano-CT data in combination with artificial intelligence for wood species identification and wood market analysis

The review article summarizes the technological developments in the field of 3D microscopy and the use of volumetric sub-µCT and nano-CT data in combination with artificial intelligence for wood species identification at the Thünen Institute of Wood Research over the last 10 years. In addition, the results of representative studies (mark analyses) are presented, in which the innovative investigation methods were used at the Thünen Centre of Competence on the Origin of Timber.
The technological basis for the investigations was developed in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Development Center for X-ray Technology EZRT and the Faculty of Applied Computer Science at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology.
