Sustainability

The basis for sustainable action at the Thünen Institute is the Federal Government's Sustainability Action Programme. This was adopted by the Federal Cabinet on 20 July 2021. The Thünen Institute actively involves its employees in the implementation of this programme of measures.
- We are committed to acting sustainably and using natural resources carefully.
- Our employees actively support the achievement of climate protection goals through their work and behaviour.
- Our employees are actively involved in our continuous improvement process.
As the Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forests and Fisheries, the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute provides politicians and society with an important and well-founded basis for decision-making with its research findings and recommendations for action. Its core competences lie in developing ways for the sustainable use of our natural resources.
The Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute offers a family- and life-phase-orientated personnel policy, the option of working from home and the use of the Jobticket, to name just three, as part of the audit berufundfamilie certification.
In addition, the Thünen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries in Rostock is introducing an environmental management system in accordance with EMAS, which will be certified in 2025.
