To get a first estimate of the C storage of hedgerows, we conducted a literature survey and compiled all available empirical data, relevant for the temperate climate region. We showed that hedgerow soils store 32% more soil organic carbon compared to adjacent croplands. No significant differences were found between hedgerow and grassland soils.
