The services of the Centre of Competence can be used by public authorities, companies, NGOs, but also by private individuals. The fees incurred are listed below.

Genetic test on tree species and geographic origin

Using genetic methods, the experts at the Thünen Centre of Competence check whether information on the species and/or geographical origin of certain woods is correct or incorrect.

Assessment of forest certification

The Thünen Centre of Competence checks and evaluates certificates and proofs of legality of traded timber. It accompanies the development of standards for systems that are subject to a regular revision process.

Microscopic wood identification

The investigations focus on the anatomical structures of the various types of wood. These are examined in detail by magnifying glass and microscope and compared with extensive reference material. Fibreboard, paper and charcoal can also be analysed.
