Daniel Oesterwind returns from this year's International Cephalopod Symposium in Okinawa, Japan, which took place at the end of October, with a new position. The members of the Cephalopod International Advisory Council have elected the scientist from the Thünen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries as their president for the next three years. He is the first German researcher to hold this position.
The Cephalopod Symposium takes place every three years. Daniel Oesterwind contributed four specialist articles on this year's topic, ‘Complexity & Beauty’, demonstrating his expertise in the field of cephalopods. Cephalopods form a zoological class within the molluscs, which includes octopuses, squids and cuttlefish, among others.
The CIAC was founded in 1983 and has 18 members from all over the world. It promotes research into cephalopods and their management, which is becoming increasingly important in marine ecosystems.
