Working together to shape climate protection – that is the goal of the new Climate Council in Lower Saxony. Today, the state cabinet is introducing its 15 members. Six researchers and nine representatives from associations and the field will advise the state government on the planning and implementation of climate protection measures in the future.
Bernhard Osterburg, head of the Thünen Coordination Unit Climate, Soil, Biodiversity, will contribute his expertise on the agricultural sector to the new Climate Council. There he will represent the field of agriculture and land use. At the Thünen Institute, the agricultural engineer is responsible for greenhouse gas reporting and coordinates policy advice, among other things.
The Climate Council aims to develop practical and socially acceptable solutions for climate protection in Lower Saxony. As soon as the first results are available, they will be discussed with randomly selected citizens in order to include as many different perspectives as possible. The recommendations from science, practice and citizens will be published annually and submitted to the state parliament.
