Automated image recognition systems for determining wood species using artificial intelligence are being developed under the title "WoodFiberID" in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute ITWM. The previous project "KI_Wood-ID" has already succeeded in developing AI systems for the identification of eleven hardwoods in fibrous materials. The results were published scientifically.
Now the newly launched project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture via the Fachagentur für Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e.V., will focus on softwoods.
At the two-day meeting in Hamburg, the interdisciplinary team was able to discuss open questions from the previous project intensively and develop new solutions for the current project.
