Petrik Runst as speaker at the event ‘Current challenges in commercial space development’ organised by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) in Osnabrück.

On October 7, 2025, and at the invitation of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) of Osnabrück, Emsland, and the County of Bentheim, Petrik Runst gave a presentation about the status quo and development of rural economies. As part of an event on current issues in commercial land development, his presentation focused primarily on the spatial distribution of selected economic indicators. Among other things, he emphasized that several metrics — particularly those related to innovation and entrepreneurship — tend to underestimate the economic potential of rural areas.

The presentation was closely aligned with the newsletter “Figures & Facts on the Economy in Rural Areas,” through which the Institute of Rural Economics regularly informs its subscribers about past and current developments in rural regions (published in German).
