Eel landings and aquaculture production in Germany

German eel catches show a strong decrease in landings between 2005 and 2012. Since then, catches have only decreased slightly and even have increased again in some rivers. During the same time period, eel production in German aquaculture has almost doubled.

Microplastic fibers in water do not alter the development of fish eggs

Micro plastic fibres from textiles are very abundant in many aquatic habitats, which rises concerns about their possible negative impact on sensitive biological processes such as reproduction of fish. Therefore we tested experimentally if micro plastic fibres in water influence fertilization and development of fish eggs.

Sometimes less is more!

Less effort, more yield! What sounds like a typical phishing mail is nothing new in fisheries management and the European eel is no exception. This could also be uitilized for conservation of the species; but we’re not quite there yet.
