On January 29, Ferike Thom successfully completed her doctorate with distinction. In her defense, she impressively demonstrated how consumer decisions can be represented more precisely in models like CAPRI. She considered not only rough product categories but also more than 900 different foods (from raw to highly processed). She also showed that nutrition recommendations can be improved by using better data and consistently considering consumer demand and the supply side.
At the same time, it became clear that there are still many unanswered questions in this field of research. In particular, the differentiated consideration of the demand side deserves more attention – both in modeling and its significance for political decision-making processes.
Congratulations to Dr. Ferike Thom on this remarkable achievement!
