Slurry lagoon - a source for high ammonia emissions

A new model for calculating ammonia (NH3) emissions from manure storages is presented here, which is designed to be used in the future also to improve NH3 reporting in NH3 inventories. The calculation uses climatic factors, especially temperature, and manure properties (pH-value) to calculate emissions. Currently, its application does not yet lead to improved forecasting quality compared to existing emission factors. However, through the targeted collection of suitable data sets, an improved estimation with the model is very likely. It is already available as a spread sheet for general use.
