Soil organic carbon benchmarks for German mineral soils under agricultural use.

Based on the dataset of the first German Agricultural Soil Inventory, site-specific soil organic carbon contents for German mineral soils were derived. The data set was stratified into 33 strata according to land use, texture, C/N ratio and precipitation, and site-specific soil organic carbon contents were calculated for each stratum. The benchmarks can help farmers compare their own measured values and raise awareness of differences between sites regarding soil organic carbon storage.
