German National Fisheries Profile (NFP)

Within the framework of the National Fisheries Profiles (NFP), a comprehensive contextualization of the EU fisheries sectors takes place, with particular emphasis on quantitative and qualitative social data.

Background and Objective

National Fisheries Profiles (NFPs) provide essential contextual data for understanding and comparing fisheries across EU Member States and sea basins. They compile quantitative and qualitative information on historical, social, cultural, economic, institutional, and legal aspects of each country's fisheries sector, highlighting key trends and changes.

Developed within the EU's STECF Expert Working Group on Social Data in Fisheries, NFPs, alongside Community Fisheries Profiles and social indicators, form a toolbox for delivering science-based advice on the social dimension of fisheries. They contextualize economic (reported in the AER) and social (reported in the ASOR) data and also serve as comprehensive, standalone overviews of national fisheries sectors.

Targeted at decision-makers, researchers, industry, civic organizations, and the public, NFPs are authored by national experts. The German NFP will be published as a Thünen-Report and linked to DG MARE's NFP website at the end of the project. NFPs are living documents and will requiring periodic updates in collaboration with DG MARE.
