Modelling (European) Agriculture with Climate Change for Food Security: Science-Policy - Network

MACSUR SciPolNet focuses on establishing a science-policy network for evidence-based policy support with regard to greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation strategies in the agriculture sector. The overall target is to facilitate science-policy communication processes for the strategic design of responses to climate change mitigation challenges at the farm-level and thereby accelerate climate action in the FACCE-JPI member countries.

Background and Objective

The MACSUR SciPolNet is a follow-up to the MACSUR SciPol Pilot (https://www.faccejpi.net/en/FACCEJPI/Actions/Core-Theme-1/Science-Policy-Knowledge-Forum.htm) and will build upon the work that has been done to date, continue and foster the network, take a deep dive into specific topics and provide a basis for long-term exchange.

Approach

MACSUR SciPolNet will focus on the following topics:

Guidance and analysis of science-policy communication, including cross county collaborations, knowledge exchange, and processes regarding climate change mitigation in agriculture
Evaluation of policies and measures targeting agricultural GHG emission reductions at farm-level with a specific focus on (1) trade-offs and co-benefits between GHG mitigation and other policy objectives (e.g. biodiversity, water quality and food security), (2) (marginal) abatement costs and (3) the global mitigation potential by considering carbon leakage effects
Guidance on the integration of existing models used to project GHG emissions from agriculture: e.g. (1) integration of farm-level model results into national inventories and projections and (2) integration of economic and biophysical models
