Modelling (European) Agriculture with Climate Change for Food Security: Science-Policy - Network
MACSUR SciPolNet focuses on establishing a science-policy network for evidence-based policy support with regard to greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation strategies in the agriculture sector. The overall target is to facilitate science-policy communication processes for the strategic design of responses to climate change mitigation challenges at the farm-level and thereby accelerate climate action in the FACCE-JPI member countries.
Background and Objective
The MACSUR SciPolNet is a follow-up to the MACSUR SciPol Pilot (https://www.faccejpi.net/en/FACCEJPI/Actions/Core-Theme-1/Science-Policy-Knowledge-Forum.htm) and will build upon the work that has been done to date, continue and foster the network, take a deep dive into specific topics and provide a basis for long-term exchange.
Approach
MACSUR SciPolNet will focus on the following topics:
- Guidance and analysis of science-policy communication, including cross county collaborations, knowledge exchange, and processes regarding climate change mitigation in agriculture
- Evaluation of policies and measures targeting agricultural GHG emission reductions at farm-level with a specific focus on (1) trade-offs and co-benefits between GHG mitigation and other policy objectives (e.g. biodiversity, water quality and food security), (2) (marginal) abatement costs and (3) the global mitigation potential by considering carbon leakage effects
- Guidance on the integration of existing models used to project GHG emissions from agriculture: e.g. (1) integration of farm-level model results into national inventories and projections and (2) integration of economic and biophysical models
