The Thünen Institutes of Sea Fisheries and of Fisheries Ecology are located in Bremerhaven (Herwigstr. 31, Tel.: +49 471 94460-001).

Motorway A 1 direction Bremen, then A 27 direction Bremerhaven. On the A 27 take exit 10 (Bremerhaven-Süd/Bremerhaven-Fischereihafen) and follow the B 6 (signs to Bremerhaven-Süd/Bremerhaven-Fischereihafen/Flughafen). After 6.7 km turn left onto the Ostrampe until you reach the road junction Am Schaufenster/Nansenstraße. Turn left to the so called Schaufenster. At the end turn right into Herwigstraße. The institute is on the left-hand side.

The new Hafenliner (line HL) runs every 30 minutes and leads directly to the Thünen-Institut. Alternatively take line 505 direction IKEA or line 506 direction Wulsdorf Bahnhofstraße to the stop "Geestemünde-Süd". From there it is a 15 minute walk (900 m). It is also possible to take line 504 in the direction of Fischereihafen to the stop "Am Schaufenster/Gera". The walk from here to the institute takes about 10 minutes (700 m).
