WASCAL students visit the Thünen Institute of Fisheries Ecology

Students from the WASCAL program gathered in Bremerhaven to discuss the sustainable use of aquatic resources – building a bridge between West Africa and Northern Germany.

As part of their Master Research Programme on Climate Change and Marine Sciences, the international WASCAL group visited the Thünen Institute of Fisheries Ecology in Bremerhaven. The students had just returned from their research cruise aboard the Polarstern, which took them from Mindelo (Cape Verde) to Bremerhaven – one of the final modules before they begin their master’s theses.

During their visit, they gained exciting insights into ongoing research projects, including in the field of aquaculture. We are especially pleased that one of the students will be conducting their thesis with us, focusing on the impact of dams on fish communities in river systems of Burkina Faso.
