Second General Meeting and Conference of the COST Action EU-PoTaRCh (Poznan, Polen)

The event was attended by 75 members from 24 European countries, who spent three days exchanging and discussing aspects relating to the extraction, process optimization and research of wood tar, charcoal, resin and potash. During the conference sessions, 16 presentations were given and 25 posters were presented. Speakers included renowned experts from academia, including Dr. Tomasz Samojlik from the Mammal Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Białowieża, Josef Gilch, Vice President of the European Charcoal Association and Dr. Volker Haag from the Thünen Institute of Wood Research with a contribution on the European charcoal trade.

During the meeting, important steps were developed to achieve the objectives of EU-PoTaRCh, including

- Creation of a database for PoTaRCh products and technologies,
- Development of protocols for the chemical analysis of these products,
- Establishing a PoTaRCh learning pathway across Europe,
- Creation of a white paper for policy makers and international organizations
