In the research project KULT_Ressource, artists and cultural practitioners are understood as cultural entrepreneurs who earn their living in the tension field between the poles of ‘artistic creation’ and ‘entrepreneurship’. Considering the contextual conditions of rural areas, this results in specific opportunities but also challenges. At the third network-meeting of the projects funded by the program line “Factor K - Culture in Rural Areas” (BULE+), Gesine Tuitjer presented findings from three comparative case studies. Among other things, the results show that there are clear regional differences with regard to the acceptance of art-making as a form of employment and that self-employed artists and cultural workers are exposed to a certain degree of competition from hobby artists and cultural workers organized in clubs (e.g. music, singing, theater).
