We found that forest-related jobs are associated with positive aspects such as fair wages, but that significant shortcomings remain – in particular, informal employment, unsafe working conditions, gender inequality and low job security are mentioned.
Although many policy measures promote ‘green jobs’, they rarely assess the quality of these jobs.
Our analysis highlights the need for clear definitions, reliable data and appropriate policy frameworks to ensure that ‘green jobs‘ not only support environmental sustainability, but also do so through decent working conditions.
