Forestry in Germany
The research conducted by our division Forestry in Germany focuses on the economic development of the German forestry sector, the adaptation strategies of forestry enterprises under changing framework conditions, and the structural composition of forest ownership.
We analyze key performance indicators from the Forest Accountancy Data Network of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH), calculate the Economic Accounts for Forestry and the European Forest Accounts for national and European reporting systems, and conduct comparative studies with European partner countries. We also collect and analyze structural characteristics of German forest owners, focusing on their willingness and capacity to engage in forest management. To demonstrate the long-term effects of changing legal, economic, and societal conditions, such as changing climate protection or biodiversity conservation requirements, on forest enterprises and to evaluate forest management strategies, we apply our Forest Economic Simulation Model (FESIM).
