The symposium ‘Elms in a Changing World: Science, Conservation, and Management’ took place at Linnaeus University in Växjö, Sweden, on 14 and 15 May 2025. Current research work and practical reports on the endangered status of elms were presented and discussed.
The first day was dedicated to contributions on Dutch Elm Disease (DED). The second day focussed on other topics, such as pathogens, epigenetics and genomic approaches. In her presentation, Anne-Mareen Eisold gave an overview of the threat posed to the Dutch elm by viral pathogens and their classification in the overall phytopathological context. Hans Hönicka presented the potential of epigenetic and microbiomic approaches to combat DED.
Special thanks go to the organisation team on site for the opportunity for personal exchange and intensive discussions with experts from a wide range of disciplines.
