During the crown approach, the tree crown is inspected with binoculars and various parameters are recorded for each tree, in particular the degree of thinning and damage factors. The images are used to record the vitality of the trees as well as mortality and its causes.
The crown survey is carried out in July and August of each year. Trees of different species, such as beech, pine, oak and douglaise, are examined at the Britz intensive monitoring area. In addition, drone surveys are carried out to gain a comprehensive picture of the condition of the forest.
