Farm level Greenhouse gas calculations - interfaces to the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Greenhouse Gas balances on farms in agriculture ) have been gaining increasing importance in politics and business in recent years. Due to the diversity of tools and methods, farmers are confronted with different tools, and the public is sometimes faced with results that are difficult to compare. We want to provide interfaces to the calculation models of national greenhouse gas reporting for agriculture and land use in order to contribute to the harmonization of procedures.

Background and Objective

We pursue the following goals:

  • Mapping all greenhouse gas emissions, especially nitrous oxide emissions, methane emissions, and carbon dioxide emissions, as well as carbon sequestration in agriculture and agricultural land use.
  • Mapping the entire agricultural farm to avoid different approaches for individual farms.
  • Comparability of calculation results through consistency with national emissions reporting, its coefficients and calculation methods, as well as with supplementary coefficients according to the calculation standard for individual farm carbon footprints (BEK).
  • Calculation methods are publicly and freely accessible.
  • The interface is available free of charge and can be integrated into existing agricultural software.

Approach

The tool consists of an interface (API) that enables calculation options for individual company carbon footprints based on the models, approaches and tools of national greenhouse gas reporting.
