Project

Intra- and interspecific breeding of willow with the objective to get new productive clones for short rotation coppice with resistance to willow rust and drought stress tolerance

The project aims at the selection of productive willow clones with new genetic basis for short rotation coppice on sites with sandy soils and low ground-water table that are distinguished by resistance to willow rusts as well as tolerance to drought stress. The basic material for crossings are parental clones of the species Salix daphnoides, S. purpurea, S. viminalis, S. aquatica, S. humboltiana and S. schwerinii characterized before regarding growth and resistance.
