As part of her cumulative dissertation, Anna Kremer examines how spatial identity influences economic factors. Her work consists of three articles, each addressing a different aspect of this relationship:
In the first paper, Kremer investigates the impact of historical borders in Germany on current internal migration patterns and demonstrates that the observed effects can be explained by feelings of regional belonging. This article was published in the Journal of Regional Science.
In the second paper, Kremer shows that regional cultural diversity within a nation—measured by the number of dialects spoken—has a positive effect on local innovative capacity.
The third chapter, co-authored with Marco Wysietzki (formerly University of Cologne), reveals that local, regional and national identities all have a positive influence on individuals’ willingness to pay taxes.
Anna Kremer expresses her gratitude to her supervisors, Prof. Georg Hirte and Prof. Marcel Thum, for their academic guidance, as well as to the committee members, Prof. Christian Lessmann and Prof. Peter Schäfer.
