New Facts & Figures on start-up dynamics in rural areas

The number of business start-ups per inhabitant in urban areas is higher than in rural areas, but the former are less likely to survive. The differences are mainly due to sectoral differences: Start-up and survival probabilities differ because of varying market entry costs. Accordingly, business start-ups per inhabitant are only of limited significance for the relative economic development of region types.
