New publication on forest values and forest management in five EU countries.

Over half of Europe's forest area is in small-scale private forest ownership. Knowledge of commonalities and differences in forest values and management strategies of small-scale private forest owners in EU member states is therefore of great importance for the efficient implementation of forest-related EU strategies.

A survey of small private forest owners in the ValoFor project investigated the differences and similarities of values and management activities in small-scale private forests in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Austria and Slovenia. It became clear that EU policy objectives and management strategies cannot be communicated uniformly across the EU, but must be adapted to the specific conditions in the respective countries.
