New publication: The impact of multiple crises on forestry enterprises...

In a collaborative effort with colleagues from Switzerland and Austria, we examined data from Forest Accountancy Data Networks in the DACH region between 2015 and 2022.

Our analysis reveals that crises such as natural disasters have had a pronounced negative impact on timber yields, ultimately affecting the success of forestry enterprises in the DACH-region. However, the surge in demand following the COVID-19 pandemic and the energy crisis have also led to a notable increase in timber revenues, exceeding pre-crisis levels.
While crises tend to drive up logging and forestry costs, they also present opportunities for forests to adapt more quickly to climate change, which in turn helps to safeguard forest-based ecosystem services.
