In July, the final study from Laura Skadell's doctoral thesis on the influence of soil organic matter on the water storage capacity of soils was published.
The study concluded that long-term measures to increase soil carbon have little effect on the plant available water capacity of soils. Although the soil structure is improved by more organic matter, the main effects are not related to the water storage capacity.
