As an institute providing scientific advice to policy makers, we need to cover three areas: science, monitoring (including the dtimely delivery of information to ICES) and advice.The Thünen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries is a comparatively small institute, within the Thünen network as well as in the international context.

In some working areas we have been able to specialise in a way that allowed us to take a leading role in Europe. Networking with our international partner institutions were pivotal in this process.
