After Vivian Fischbach was already awarded the award of the University of Rostock for the best master thesis of the year, she was now awarded the grant award of the Baltic Sea Research Foundation for her work "Morphological definition of the larval stages of the herring (Clupea harengus)" in a festive ceremony.

Identifying an important research gap on the threshold between taxonomic morphology and fish ecology, Vivian Fischbach started the studies for her master thesis in spring 2021. The topic of the thesis formed an important bridge between the aforementioned disciplines and the working groups at the Meeresmuseum Stralsund and the Thünen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries and was correspondingly ambitious. Vivian Fischbach did an excellent job on the questions of the thesis on the morphological determination of critical larval life stages and thus created an important basis to extend the monitoring of herring larvae by the analysis of critical developmental bottle necks in the future. With the help of a Best Scholarship from the University of Rostock, Vivian Fischbach is able to deepen her studies and started her PhD thesis in spring 2022 with the support of the Thünen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries.

The award of the "Baltic Sea Research Foundation" is awarded annually to young scientists for outstanding work in the field of research on the fauna and flora of the Baltic Sea, adjacent waters and coastal habitats, as well as research on the impact of increasing economic use on the marine environment.
