  • Since 1992 Scientist and fisheries management adviser at the Thünen-Federal Research Institute for Sea Fisheries. Cooperation in and chairman of international advisory groups, i.e. the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF, 2002-2007), the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES, 1992-2007), the North-west Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO, 1989-2007), the North-east Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NEAFC, 1989-2007) and the Joint Scientific Committee of Greenland and the European Commission
  • 2008-2013 Scientist and adviser of the European Commission (Directorate of the Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy) regarding multi-annual management plans, fisheries management trough fishing effort and in the Mediterranean and Black Sea, as well as the Marine Strategy Framework Directive
  • 1989-1991 Scientist at the Marine Research Institute of the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel
  • 1980-1988 Graduate in the fields of fishery biology, zoology and oceanography and PhD at the University Hamburg
  • 1977-1979 Pre-graduate of natural sciences at the der Technical University Carolo-Wilhelmina in Braunschweig
