Start-ups are newly founded companies that are characterized by their innovative character and growth orientation. The frequency with which start-ups are founded differs significantly from region to region. Both the degree of ruralness of the region and its socio-economic situation play a role. Start-ups are founded particularly frequently in the centers of large agglomerations. Within rural areas, start-ups appear to be concentrated primarily in regional centers such as smaller independent cities.
