Launch of the Survey of Biomass Combustion Plants for 2024

As part of the ongoing task “Wood Resource Monitoring,” operators of biomass combustion plants will be surveyed in the coming weeks regarding their use of wood raw materials. The aim is to gain a comprehensive overview of the use of wood for energy in German biomass combustion plants.

More than 3,100 plant operators across Germany will be invited in writing to participate in the survey. Based on the data on wood raw material usage and other site-specific information, it will become clear how many and which types of wood raw materials are actually used in biomass combustion plants. The survey results will also make it possible to identify structural changes and to trace material flows in the field of energetic wood utilization.

The “Wood Resource Monitoring” project, which was initiated in 1999 at the request of wood market stakeholders and under the leadership of Prof. Udo Mantau, has become an important basis for forest and wood market policy decisions. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) has commissioned the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries, to carry out the project as an ongoing task. Dr. Jochem and Dr. Glasenapp from the Thünen Institute for Forestry coordinate the survey.

The current survey is being conducted by in vivo GmbH on behalf of the Thünen Institute for Forestry. For any questions regarding participation in this survey, please contact in vivo GmbH at: holz2024@in-vivo.info.
