After long discussion an agreement was reached for the selection process of ITTO’s future Executive Directors. According to this the qualification of the candidate and a rotation between producer and consumer countries are essentials. Another main discussion topic was the improvement of ITTO’s funding situation including the arrangement of fundraising activities.
Highlights from a German perspective were the signing of a contract between BMEL and ITTO for funding (1 million EURO) of a multi-national project on teak forest manangement in the Mekong River Region. Dr. Schröder from the Thünen Institute was elected Vice-chair of the Committee on Reforestation and Forest Management and will become Chair during the forthcoming Council Meeting in Togo next year.
