The event was organized by the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) in cooperation with the International Teak Information Network (TEAKNET), the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), the Indian Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO).
Mr. Temesgen Zana Jaffo and PD Dr. Sven Günter from the Thünen Institute of Forestry’s Forestry Worldwide working group represented the institute at the conference. Their participation contributed to strengthening cooperation with ITTO and other partners in the Smallholder-Teak project’s target regions.
As part of the ITTO-BMLEH thematic session on “Financial Analysis, Value Addition, Markets, and Legal Supply Chains,” Mr. Jaffo delivered a presentation entitled “Bridging the Financial Gap for Smallholder Teak Growers: Preliminary Screening of Financial Mechanisms Across Six Project Countries.”
The conference gathered more than 300 participants from 40 countries across five continents, including representatives from government institutions, the private sector, academia, research organizations, and local communities.
