Scientific writing in Science

Timing and duration: The course will take place on four half-day sessions in spring 2022. Session times are Monday 17 January 2022, 10:30 h - 14:30 h; Wednesday 19 January 2022, 10:30 h - 14:30 h; Wednesday 9 February 2022, 10:30 h - 14:30 h; and Wednesday 9 March 2022, 10:30 h - 14:30 h. The course may be repeated on demand.

Registrations: Course offer will be circulated by the institution mailing list. The participant quota for this course is 9, and while registrations are done on a first come-first serve principle, applicants from Thünen-AK are prioritised.

Target group: Mainly PhD students about to write their first paper

Course description and learning aims:

This course provides hands on advice and practice on paper writing in the area of agricultural, environmental and soil sciences. The course covers the following topics:

  • The general structure of papers
  • Tips for the start of writing a paper
  • How to formulate good objectives and hypothesis?
  • Exercises on drafting figures and tables
  • Who becomes co-author?
  • The process of journal selection and submission

The course consists of 4 half-day sessions and provides the opportunity to write a first paper draft within the framework of the course.

The course will be held in English.

Depending on the corona situation the course will be held either in person or online.
