Gear sensor system

When fishing with towed gears, a continuous control of the gear dimensions is necessary. This makes it possible to influence the behaviour of the gear during fishing, e.g. by the towing speed or the length of the bailing lines, and to store parameters such as the size of the gear opening for later evaluations. The Thünen Fisheries Institutes use gear sensors from Scanmar on their research trips. Currently, we can detect the vertical and horizontal opening of the gear, the distance of the head and bottom line to the bottom and the bottom contact, the distance of the otter boards from each other, the symmetry of the gear and fish entrances into the gear. In cooperation with the owner of the research vessels (Federal Office for Agriculture and Food), we maintain the various sensors and coordinate their deployment.
