Clusterstatistics of Forestry and Timber

Based on official statistics on turnover, the number of enterprises and employment we investigate the economy of forestry and wood industry. The main objective of our research is the quantification of the added value in forest and wood industry including their structural development.

In 2014 the turnover of goods and services of the entire Cluster of Forest and Timber reached 177.6 Billion Euros. The gross value added generated by all industrial sectors accounts more than 55 Billion Euros. 1.085 Million employees were counted in 125,404 enterprises belonging to the cluster of forest and timber.

Methodology

Using the data on turnover, employment, added values and the number of enterprises annual reports on forestry and wood industry are prepared and published. With exception of forestry for which calculations performed at Thünen Institute are used the data for all other branches are provided by the Federal Statistical Office and Federal Employment Agency.
