Landscape Forestry in the Tropics

A new project to analyse the influence of policy instruments on tropical forest landscapes and livelihoods

The German Federal Office for Agriculture and Food has approved a new research project with the title „Towards policy approaches for improving livelihoods, sustainable forest management and conservation”.

On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture we analyse the multiple drivers of deforestation under different biophysical and socioeconomic contexts. The key question is the role of payments for ecosystem services, regulative instruments or improved land use systems in combining enhanced livelihoods and forest preservation.

The aim of the project is the development of science-based decision support and policy advice for sustainable tropical forest landscapes. The project has a four years perspective and will be implemented under coordination of our Dept. Forestry Worldwide in cooperation with partners from Ecuador, Philippines and an additional country from Africa.
