In May 2017 the Japanese national law against illegal harvest and associated trade of timber came into force and is presently at implementation stage.

On behalf of the Japanese forestry administration the objective of the journey was to provide information and experiences in terms of application of forest certification, the European Timber Regulation (EUTR) and the German Holzhandels-Sicherungs-Gesetz (Holz-SiG) respectively in Germany for this implementation.

Previously the scientists visited in this relation the GD-Holz Service GmbH (EUTR-Monitoring Organisation, Berlin), the WWF-Germany (Berlin), the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food, (EUTR-Competent Authority, Bonn), The Federal Ministry for Agriculture and Food (Bonn) as well as the timber trade enterprise WOB TIMBER in Hamburg.

A further exchange of information and support from the TI-Centre of Competence was agreed.
