Federal Minister Klöckner visited Thünen-Institute in Hamburg

On October 4th, 2019, Federal Minister Julia Klöckner visited the Thünen Institute in Hamburg, to keep herself informed about ongoing research on forests and wood utilisation.

The program comprised a visit to the Thünen Centre of Competence on the Origin of Timber, and the presentation of topical policy relevant research in the three Thünen institutes of Wood Research, of Forest Genetics and of International Forestry and Forest Economics. The lively discussion covered the topics illegal logging, forest certification and global wood markets; adaptation of forests to climate change; forest owner’s and society’s demands on forests; and forest policy for the tropics. After the visit, the minister advanced her impression about the capability of our research.
