Beach seine operation at the Gullmarfjord in Sweden.

To answer this question, researchers from the Thünen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries, the German Oceanographic Museum and the Universities of Stockholm and Gothenburg collected material from the Gullmarfjord on the Swedish west coast in early September. Beach seine catches in the immediate shore area show the great importance of seagrass beds as nursery grounds for important commercial fish species. We compare population structure and undertake genetic studies to analyze the link between fishes in the western Baltic Sea and the eastern Skagerrak.
