What do you do in the different professions in wood research? 25 students investigated this question on the Future Day at the Thuenen Institute.

With an entertaining program, they got to know the work of the scientists and technical staff at the site.

For this purpose, stations in the carpentry workshop, in the chipboard technical center, in the biology laboratory and in the wood collection were visited. In the field of bionics at the Institute of Wood Sciences at the University of Hamburg, nature was shown to be a teacher for technical solutions, while in the field of wood chemistry, the smells of wood components were tested and bonding tests were carried out with bio-based adhesives.

Finally, ice cream was made for everyone with the help of liquid nitrogen. The participants were very impressed by the diversity of the work and perhaps we will see each other again at the location in a few years.
