Coordination and conduction of the German National Fisheries Data Collection Programme (DCF)
The Data Collection Framework (DCF), co-funded by the EU, allows Member States to collect fisheries data relevant for the sustainable management of fish stocks.
The critical situation of many of the exploited fish stocks due to overfishing is the reason of establishing the Data Collection Framework (EU Regulation 2017/1004). This regulation obliges Member States to set up and implement national programmes for sampling of fishery data relevant for the sustainable management of fish stocks. This includes the investigation of landings and by-catches of German fisheries and economic data in relation to fisheries. The sampled data serve directly for the improvement of fish stock assessments and advice by ICES, NAFO and STECF. In addition, the economic status of the fishing fleet, aquaculture and fish processing industry is being estimated.
