Wirkung des Klimawandel auf Waldökosysteme und Optionen zur Anpassung von Waldbeständen und Waldbewirtschaftung

Der laufende Klimawandel stellt eine der größten Herausforderungen für die Erhaltung von produktiven Wäldern dar. Klimaextreme wie Trockenheit, Hitzewellen, Stürme und begleitendes Auftreten von Schaderregern machen eine Beobachtung der Wälder und eine Anpassung von Waldbeständen und Waldmanagement notwendig.

Hintergrund und Zielsetzung

Die Forschungen zielen darauf ab, fachübergreifend die wichtigsten Einflüsse des Klimawandels auf Wälder zu analysieren und zu bewerten. Die Ergebnisse sollen genutzt werden, Konzepte für eine Anpassung der Wälder und der Waldbewirtschaftung zu entwickeln und deren Umsetzung anzuschieben.

Vorgehensweise

Daten des forstlichen Umweltmonitorings und eigene Erhebungen werden genutzt für eine Identifikation der wichtigsten Treiber für eine Änderung der Vitalität und Produktivität von Wäldern. In internationalen Netzwerken werden Konzepte und Maßnahmen für ein adaptives Waldmanagement mit den Elementen Transfer von Baumarten und Herkünften sowie Änderung der waldbaulichen Behandlung von Waldbeständen entwicklelt.

Vorläufige Ergebnisse

Erste Ansätze zu einem adaptiven Management (AFM) wurden bereits entwickelt und publiziert. Insbesondere die Nutzung von aktiven und passiven Anpassungsmaßnahmen bei der Waldbewirtschaftung wurden intensiv diskutiert.
