Mario Peters supports the transnational collaborative project ValoFor, which investigates the contribution of small forest private owners to the wood-based bioeconomy.

The main task of the Thünen Institute of International Forestry and Forest Economics in the project is to model the economic impacts of small private forest management strategies in the partner countries as well as to determine threshold values for management decisions and to evaluate the results against the background of changing economic, market and site conditions.

Mr. Peters completed his bachelor's and master's degree at the University of Hamburg in wood economics. In his final thesis, he examined charcoal products from Namibia and verified their wood species composition. By comparing anatomical structural features of the charcoal fragments with reference wood samples, the declared wood species could be confirmed or disproved.
